Afrika Handmade Symposium & Gallery 2015

TBT: Afrika Handmade Symposium & Gallery 2015

One of the unforgettable things that we did this year was attending the 2015 Afrika Handmade Symposium & Gallery.

The event which took place at the Alliance Francaise in Nairobi was organised by Craft Afrika, a social enterprise that works towards identifying, creating and supporting market penetration for hand crafters in Africa. The symposium was a two day affair taking place on 1st and 2nd October while the gallery ran from 30th September all through to 16th November. The event was sponsored by Design Network Africa, Bamburi Cement, Alliance Francaise and HEVA Fund. Partners included Anselm Kitengela Hot Glass and GoDown Arts Centre.

The participants, designers and artisans in the craft and handmade design sector, got an opportunity to speak about their work, successes, challenges and collaborative needs. Each and everyone of them was also able to show samples of their work. It was an exciting experience as we got to learn so much. Interacting with other designers made us see the similar things that we go through in our day to day work as well as learn new stuff that we will be putting into practice.
