New fashion is much inspired by history. When we look back at history, celebrating love, leadership, courage, strength and achievements of women has not always been the case. However, ever since the inception of the International women`s day and month, women’s efforts are now recognized changing that tremendously . Today is no different for us here at Adele Dejak because we would not have it any other way than to honor the women who are trailblazers in their areas of specialty, beginning with music.
Today’s WCW and hero is professionally known as Sade Adu or simply Sade. Sade is a Nigerian-born English Singer-songwriter, composer, arranger and record producer. She grew up listening to soul legends like Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and wanted to be a drummer before becoming convinced that she’d be a writer. Instead she ended up in art school. “I wanted to do painting but I ended up in fashion ’cause I wanted to make a living out of it, to have a trade, which was very much how I was brought up. But I didn’t fit in, I wasn’t reverent about new fashion, I didn’t love it at all.”
By chance something else happened to rescue her from her frustrations. Some old school friends of hers formed a band and asked her to join as a vocalist which she did reluctantly, on the basis that she would stay “until they found a proper singer.” From there she moved to Latin funk group, which grew to be extremely popular in the 80’s called Pride.
Fast forward to 2017 and she’s been out of the spotlight for almost a decade, yet never out of the charts. She’s sold more than 50 million records, been nominated for various awards, won one BRIT award, one American Music Award, two Porin Awards and four Grammys. Her genius mastery of music has given her icon status, and influenced other renowned musical artists.
Music speaks what cannot be simply expressed and Sade truly manages to do so mind and heart soothingly. Do have yourselves a brilliant Women’s day as you listen to the best of Sade.
