ADELE DEJAK & ABURY BERLIN

In June the Adele Dejak brand launched into Germany in collaboration with Abury Berlin. Way back in March when we things were settling down following the elections in Kenya we were working with Andrea Kolb, the founder of Abury on selecting products to be exhibited and sold in Abury’s very first pop-up shop in the fashionable Mitte area of Berlin.

Andrea set up Abury with the goal of providing a fair chance of competitiveness in international markets for artisans from developing countries. Through the production of beautiful products for the international market Abury works to develop the skills and traditions of local artisans. Having spent time living in Morocco Andrea was taken by the unique and stunning products made by Berber artisans and sadden to learn that the skills for making such products were dying out as the younger generation was now seeking and dependent on different types of employment. Abury works with artisans such as these invest in those skills as well as providing the means to carry out community-based projects such as building wells and libraries, bringing fabulous products to new markets.

When Andrea approached us about collaborating we were very excited about this opportunity as many of the values held dear to Abury are also in our hearts. It is so wonderful to be able to have the opportunity to showcase our products in such a vibrant and fashionable European city and to raise awareness of the skills of our artisans and staff here in Kenya.
The launch went really well with lots of guests including the singer Sandra Amarie who selected an Adele Dejak bag. If you are based in Berlin or visiting anytime soon please pop by and check out the Abury collection with Adele Dejak.
